Have you ever wondered why you crave foods that you do not cook? Do you want to eat juicy meatballs, tender chicken legs, and the famous shawarma, which is just around the block but are too tired to get it yourself? Even mentioning the names will allure and change your mind to whatever you are eating today. You may shift from simple vegetables to a doner kebab for dinner tonight. But the truth is, is it worth buying everything from the fast-food joints? Can we prepare all these items at home? Think hygienically and even budget.
The other day I went out with friends and decided to try out the new restaurant famous for its burgers. First, I thought it must be some new sauce they were serving but little did I know I was in for a surprise. We all wanted to try different flavors and hence ordered varieties. After waiting for the regular time, the waiter arrived with our order. Instantly I spoke, what is this? Why is this all yellow? Yes, you heard it right, our burgers were yellow, meaning the bun which was supposed to be brown baked, was yellow. The waiter gave me a weird look and left. Guilty, I asked my friends and was told the specialty is that the buns are made of potato flour. My jaws dropped, eyes wide, and I thought, for this, I paid Rs 600? Just the burger, not the meal, it cost more. Well, I started gobbling as I was hungry, and to be honest, it was quite tasty.
Looking forward to another adventure, I went to buy a pizza( I had saved a few bucks to buy a pizza as an experiment). I asked the manager what his specialty is? ‘’ He replied, “ ma’am, go for our thin crust with beef as a topping.” I said, “ fine, let’s do it and make it regular size.” I waited for like an eternity, and what did I get? It was like the pizza was starving itself and had not eaten for weeks, with the addition of burnt rounds ( see the picture). What was I thinking? Why did I order it? I asked him to cancel my order or give me a new one. He was kind enough to refire my order, but wait; the surprise didn’t end there. After getting a decent-looking pizza, I went home, made myself comfy on the couch, and took the first bite. The pizza was terrible. It added to my utter disappointment, but alas! I couldn’t waste it. So I took teeny weeny bites with a sip of water as I had to gobble it by any means. TIt made me realize, are these fast foods worth it?
If you are savvy at shopping, then it’s a completely different story, but people like me ( i go for the saving part first), have you ever wondered that whatever you buy from those joints and drive-thru is worth it or not? Sometimes I find that the prices are exorbitant, and the food I get is not fulfilling to my tastebuds; many times, it does. A few days ago, somebody told me that the lady of their house cooks everything, literally everything at home. Their family rarely goes out for dinner because you name it, and she cooks it for them. That’s quite cool, but then outings are necessary for peace of mind.
In a TV show, the famous chef Gordon Ramsey bought a few snacks from a popular drive-thru, and what did he have? Two plain sandwiches with nothing on it(not even butter) with a plain thin beef strip in between and no vegetables. That is when he declared( jokingly, of course) that whole dilemma as THE IDIOT SANDWICH.
So decide which category you fit in perfectly? Like me, who thrives on trying once at least to satisfy the taste buds? Or you can kill your ego and eat homemade only? Decide for yourself what is best for you.
P.S my mother just asked me why have you posted a picture of a burger instead of the sandwich, I replied, that is because the sandwich is idiot, unlike burger so I posted the burger’s picture ( They deserve this for being so tasty) and for the sandwiches, keep a look for my next post :) happy reading.
